HomeCookingShare: To begin, who are you?
NEO 10Y: Hello! My name is NEO 10Y, I’m a multi-disciplinary and recording artist from London. I’m also vegan and love cooking and experimenting with different plants!
HCS: How would you define your music?
NEO 10Y: My music is genre bending, but kinda cinematic grunge slash industrial rnb with conscious lyricism. I think of it as post pop, because I believe in the subversion and deconstruction of the norm and music has moved into a space now where we are our own voices and genres and if something is popular with listeners, media and the general public; it can no longer be defined and categorised. My music videos are a connected hyper reality documentary series spanning three years so far!
HCS: What made you decide one day to embark on this musical adventure?
NEO 10Y: There was no one like me three years ago making music. There still isn’t anyone like me. I’m a really intersectional human being - queer, brown, neurodivergent, an activist, vegan - I stand wholly in opposition of oppression and I’m allowed to be authentically myself because I’m independent and I that’s why people connect with me. In addition to the fact that my music is awesome and unique.
HCS: Your influences?
NEO 10Y: Ancient civilisations, the future of humanity, yogis, buddhas, the disenfranchised, my higher self.
HCS: If you had to leave on a desert island with 3 discs: which ones?
NEO 10Y: All of my songs. I make them for me as much as anyone else but I think I would need to take CDs or records that have sonic frequencies for therapy.
HCS: The perfect track to cook?
NEO 10Y: Maybe a manifestation frequency to help create or some old Bollywood like Dum Maro Dum.
HCS: Small technical point: with what material do you work?
NEO 10Y: I write on piano and guitar and use paper for words or the notes app on my phone. Then we build drums and additional instruments in the studio with different producers, depending on the track!
HCS: Not easy to break into the musical jungle, even with talent ... what do you think about it?
NEO 10Y: To be a successful independent artist in this day and age, you need to be a full 360 artist, digital designer, music video director, publicist, sound tech, playlist manager, booker - everything. You can be so talented but if you don’t know how to run and build a music business: you will get lost in the noise. I think having a profound and intricate narrative is more important than anything and will get you cut through authentically. Be yourself. Stan Yourself!

NEO 10Y: Just wanted to say thanks for supporting independent artists. It’s awesome that you have this platform and I’m grateful that you’ve connected with my art. It keeps me going! It’s great doing interviews with Billboard and big magazines but if we don’t have time for our listeners on the ground who inspire us every day then we have nothing!
