Focus on... Contra Maerorem
Version fraçaise ici
From now on, every month on HomeCooking Share , a regular user artist will be presented, put forward. In addition to his music, which can be found everywhere on the site, this is an opportunity to get to know each other better! For this ninth episode, focus on Contra Maerorem
HomeCookingShare: To begin, who are you?
Contra Maerorem: I’m the breathing being behind Contra Maerorem, pleased to meet you.
HCS: How would you define your music?
CM: Although I actually don’t really like labels and categories, as I think they are always approximate and ambiguous to say the least, I’d probably define my music – not that you’d call it “music” – as a blend of noise and techno, designed with a particular taste for ultra-low frequencies.
HCS: What made you decide one day to embark on this musical adventure?
CM: I never had a real choice, rather I always did what it has to be done. At the very beginning of 2018, the consequences that not creating Contra Maerorem would have brought were unacceptable, as simple as that.
HCS: Your influences?
CM: Well… It’s a very though question, as it’s likely that my main influences are non-musical, but if we limit ourselves just to the so-called “world of music” – assuming that such a thing exists – in broad terms I’d say the underground techno scene, old-school black and thrash metal, and folk music in general as well. Anyway, I could be lying to you in spite of myself…
HCS: If you had to leave on a desert island with 3 discs: which ones?
CM: Wow, to list 300 of them would already be hard enough… I’d probably make three compilations with my favourite tracks from the following acts: Darkthrone, DSA Commando and Queen. But I don’t think that on a desert island I’d feel the need to listen to music...
HCS: The perfect track to cook?
CM: Given that I’m not exactly a chef (to put it mildly)… Perhaps something from Daft Punk’s “Discovery”.
HCS: Small technical point: with what material do you work?
CM: At present I basically make everything by means of the Hydrogen 0.9.7 drum machine installed on my pc and a pair of headphones.
HCS: Not easy to break into the musical jungle, even with talent ... what do you think about it?
CM: Yes, I guess it’s not, anyway it’s never been my concern.
HCS: And finally, if you have something to add (pretty much what you want ...), here we go!
CM: In case you should be interested in my works you can check out my Soundcloud and Bandcamp pages.
To continue in music the discovery of the artist, here is his latest track uploaded : "Toward No Direction"
To be continued... next month!
